Prepared for Passion Point Collective · 7-Eleven Centennial

Travis Lee Ratcliff

Director · Movement House, Austin, Texas

Three short documentaries. Texas tradition, craft passed down by hand, and the old way of doing things running into the new one. They're the closest things in my work to what a 7-Eleven film needs.

Dynasty and Destiny

2024 · Short documentary
Director, Editor, Producer
Shot on 16mm and 35mm with digital

Kanesha Jackson is a third-generation barrel-racing champion. She's training her thirteen-year-old daughter, Kortnee, to follow in her footsteps. A portrait of how a tradition moves through a family, four generations deep in the Texas rodeo.

Film stock cut against crisp digital, Texas heritage handed down to a new generation. Same toolkit, same question as the 7-Eleven film.

In the Space Between Ages

2018 · Short documentary
Director, Editor, Producer
Shot in Ireland

The sculptor Dony Mac Manus has turned his back on most of contemporary art and gone back to the ideals of the Renaissance. A portrait of an artist working out who he is in the modern world.

A craftsman holding on to the old way of doing things while the world moves on. Heritage and the present, in the same frame.

Zapatería

2020 · Short documentary
Director, Editor, Producer
Shot in Barcelona

Norman Vilalta is a bespoke shoemaker in Barcelona. He makes a pair of shoes entirely by hand, with tools handed down from the shoemakers who came before him.

Hands, tools, process, macro detail. The way we want to shoot the miniatures, the Slurpee machine and the people behind the counter.
